Brenda M. Royer

1950  -  2009

 

Brenda died Thursday, November 19, 2009 in the Health Alliance Leominster Campus after an illness.

She was born in Leominster on June 30, 1950, the daughter of the late Albert and the late Vera (Powell) Royer.

Brenda was a lifelong resident of Leominster. She graduated from the Mount Wachusett Community College and earned an Associate degree in General Studies and Liberal Arts. She studied history at the Salem State College, receiving a Bachelor's degree in 1974 and Master's degree in 1977. She was a proud member of the Salem State College Chapter of the Historical Honor Society. Brenda worked as Housing Authority Agent for the Athol Housing Authority in the 1970's, Rural Housing in Winchendon from 1978 to 1983, and the Fitchburg Housing Authority from 1983 to 1987. More recently, she worked for the Executive Office Community Development in Boston from 1987 until March of 2009.

Brenda served on several community boards across the state in the 1980's. She was a member of the Friends of the Library group in Gardner and Leominster. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, and planting her beautiful rose and tulip gardens each year. She enjoyed watching baseball games and was a fan of the New York Yankees.

She leaves her companion of thirty-four years, James M. Hogan of Leominster; several relatives including her uncles, Wilfred Royer of New Jersey, Raymond Royer of Fitchburg, Ernest Royer of Gardner; her cousin, Wilfred Royer, Jr. of New Jersey; and her dear friend, Beth Jeppson of Beverly, MA.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery.

James J. "Pizza" Maggio, 60 years old, of Gardner, formerly of Fitchburg and Leominster, died Monday, February 1, 2010, in his home. He is survived by daughters Sara Maggio of Emeryville, CA, Jennifer Maggio of Seattle, WA, and Andrea Maggio of Richmond, VA, son Michael Maggio of New Orleans, LA, mother Frances (Gabriele) Maggio of Gardner, sisters Wendy Aucoin of Florida and Cindy Chappron of Rhode Island, brothers Stephen Maggio of Florida and Frank Maggio of Massachusetts.

Mr. Maggio was born August 10, 1949 in Fitchburg, son of Francesco and Frances (Gabriele) Maggio and graduated from Leominster High School in 1968. He lived in Virginia for 10 years before returning to the Fitchburg/Leominster area 6 years ago. He had most recently been a salesman at Mattress Giant in Shrewsbury and had also owned and operated a pizza place in Fitchburg during his youth, though most of his professional life was spent dedicated to buying and selling sports memorabilia. He was an avid collector of record albums, movies and sports memorabilia.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11:30 AM in St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster Street, Leominster. Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 5-8 PM in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster.

Wayne R. Davis

1950 - 1970

Viet Nam

 

The last service member from the city who was killed in Viet Nam action was Spec. 4th Class Wayne Robert Davis, 20, who was a member of the 1st Calvary Division and had been in Vietnam for only 13 days when he was killed Aug. 22, 1970. 

I'm looking for more info on Wayne and can't find it. Pictures and info  ??

Alan Plant    1950  -  2009

Alan Francis Plant of Ashburnham and Leominster died on May 24 from illness while on a cruise near Anchorage, Alaska. Alan is survived by his wife of 37 years, Renee Lynn (Snell) Plant, his son Jason, daughter-in-law Bridget, and grandchildren Jason, Ryan and Abigail. Alan is also survived by his dear sister and kindred spirit, Deborah Chouinard, and brothers William and Thomas. Alan was born in Ludlow, on April 28, 1950, son of William J. and France I. (Doughty) Plant and graduated from the Leominster Trade School in 1968. He also attended East Coast Aero Tech in Bedford.

For the last 19 years of his life, Alan battled many illnesses, including lymphoma for which he provided hope and guidance for others also afflicted with this cancer. In 1991 he became the first person to undergo a bone marrow transplant for non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Bone marrow transplant is now a common and effective treatment for lymphoma.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 10 AM in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. Burial will be in the New Cemetery, in Ashburnham. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 2-8 PM in the funeral home.

 

Bruce B. Lowe   1950 - 2008

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Bruce B. Lowe, 57, formerly of Leominster, born on July 25, 1950, son of Norman and Verna (Buck) Lowe, passed away on Saturday, April 19.

He graduated from Leominster High School and Quinsigamond College with an associate’s degree in respiratory therapy. Bruce worked for Leominster and Burbank hospitals as a respiratory therapist and served as an auxiliary police officer in Leominster, as well as a reserve police officer in Shirley. He was recently employed as an associate customer service engineer with Diebold Incorporated. Bruce was a lifetime member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, a member of the Leominster Sportsman Club and Lunenburg Sportsman Club. In his teenage years, he was the drummer of a local band called The Sound. Bruce was known for his love and compassion for animals and a deep love for the ocean.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughters, Chardell and Marissa; a brother, Philip and his wife, Christine; a grandson, Tucker; an aunt, Erma Buck; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

James Hendershaw   1949 - 2007

Jim Hendershaw was born in Leominster, Massachusetts on November 16, 1949.

His love of cars got him a job at a local Chevrolet dealership in the neighboring town of Fitchburg at the age of 18, by 19, he owned his first corvette. His love of classic cars extended to the present. He was the owner of one of the finest American car collections in the San Diego area.  The California Real Estate Regional Magazine noted Jim in the early '90's as one of the top-producing agents in California. He was salesman of the year for 24 of the 26 years of his tenure at ACI. During this time Jim assembled a premier and award winning American car collection that has been duly noted by the American Antique Car Association. His cars are known to be amongst the rarest and most pristine in condition.

However, the most important thing in Jim's life was his family. He is survived by his wife Salijo Alioto Hendershaw, 55, daughter Christina Santa Hendershaw, 24, son James Jason Hendershaw, 20, and brothers Scott Hendershaw, 48, and Edward Hendershaw II, 63. He was very proud of his wife, children and brother Scott.

 

Maria A. Piccolomini   1950 - 2007

Maria A. Piccolomini, of San Francisco, died Feb. 4 in San Francisco.

Maria was born April 29, 1950, in Leominster. She was a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners and owned and operated Pelican Delivery Inc. for more than 20 years.

She leaves a husband. Misiepo Fuaau and son, Abel. Fuaau. She's survived by her sister of Anna Piccolomini and her parents Emidio and Concetta Piccolomini.

 

 

Margaret Armillotti   1949 - 2007

Margaret “Peggy” Armillotti 58 of Leominster died Tuesday December 25, 2007 in Keystone Center after an illness. She was born on December 13, 1949 in Leominster, Massachusetts was the daughter of Luigi and Elizabeth (Buttil) Armillotti. She was a graduate of Leominster High School Class of 1968. She worked at the Post Office for 15 years and at Armillotti Shoe Repair. She is survived by two sons Brian Belliveau of Leominster, and Mark Belliveau of Edgewater, Florida, 1 daughter Mindy Taylor of Westminster, Massachusetts, two brothers Dennis Armillotti of Leominster and Louis Armillotti of California, seven grandchildren Evan Taylor and Julia Taylor, Brittany Belliveau, Alexis Belliveau, Alyssa Belliveau, Luke Belliveau, and Seth Saunders.
