Sandra A. Couture Leominster, active in theater community; 61 LEOMINSTER Sandie, 61, of Leominster, died Wednesday, October 8th, at the Leominster Health Alliance Hospital, after a brief illness.

Her three children survive her: Christopher Couture, Candace Graves and Nicole Couture with whom she lived. She leaves her brother, Raymond Brosseau with whom she also lived and her sister, Linda Marrone. She also leaves her grandchildren, Justice and Hunter Graves and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, John passed in 1989.

Sandie was born on January 2, 1947, daughter of the late Raymond J. and Sundina V. (Salvi) Brosseau. She was a lifelong resident of Leominster. Sandie was greatly involved" in theater and gave local audiences countless years of memorable performances on many stages throughout the area. Her career began as a nightclub singer with Sounds Unlimited in 1961. In 1976, she hit the stage in her first theatrical role. Over the next 30 plus years, her talent and creative spirit, whether on stage or off, played a vital part of countless productions. Sandie was a member of New Players Theatre Guild where she created "Showstoppers", a traveling group of vocalists who brightened numerous events and gatherings with their talent. For many years, Sandie was also an intricate part of the Saint Joseph's PTA shows, and was the director of their choir. For over 10 years, she was the drama teacher at Julie Country Day School in Leominster, and most recently was the drama director at Oakmont High School and Toy Town Elementary School in Winchendon. She delighted in sharing her talent and passion for theater with children and teens. At Theatre at the Mount in Gardner, Sandie wore numerous hats during her 20 plus years of dedication. Mount audiences know her most notably for her portrayal of Mother Superior in the Nunsense series, a role she was currently playing for the 5th time in "Nunsensations". Her roles behind the scenes included director, choreographer, music director, costume and set painter to name a few. Her artistic vision and enthusiasm for bringing a show from book to stage was contagious and admired by all.

 Nothing was more important to Sandie than her family, and most recently her precious grandsons who were her pride and joy. She delighted in each and every moment that she spent with them. All will miss Sandie's talent, generosity, selfless spirit, and passion for life. COUTURE Calling hours will be on Sunday, October 12, 2 to 6 p.m. at the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 46 Woodland St., Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sandie Couture Scholarship Fund, c/o Digital Credit Union, 1123 Central St., Leominster, MA 01453.

 
Sue Gardner

The Apple Lady

Susan J. Gardner, 60, of Leominster, died at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1946, daughter of Arlene E. (Pierce) Gardner and the late James A. Gardner. She was a Charter Member of the Friends of Sholan Farms where she enjoyed leading school groups and was affectionately called “The Apple Lady.” In 2001, she starred in the independent film, “We’ve Got Johnny.” She brought humor to her role as the all-knowing apple expert. She was also a member of the Leominster Historical Society, Nashaway Genealogical Society and the Leominster United Methodist Church.

Virginia (Grubb) Sterritt    1947 - 2007

Virginia Grubb Sterritt, died last week at her home in lower Manhattan.

Born in Leominster, Ginnie moved to Boston to attend Boston University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Masters of Education. She was a senior paralegal with the New York firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. An actor, writer, director and producer, Ginnie was a key student of the famous HB Studio and a principal member of the theater group, Love Creek. Following the events of 9/11/2001, Ginnie became active in the parish of Trinity/St. Paul's in lower Manhattan, committed to healing the wounds left on her community that day.

She is survived by her twin sons, Craig and Jeremy Sterritt; their father, David Sterritt (divorced in 2002); her daughter-in-law, Tanya Van Sant; her mother, Loretta Grubb; and her four brothers, Robert, Lawrence, Paul, and Russell.
