She was the wife of Douglas L. Watson, to whom she
was married for 38 years, and the daughter of the late Karl C.
Hasenstein Jr. and Alice (Matthews) Hasenstein Sanborn. She was born on
June 5, 1940, in Fitchburg, and was a lifelong resident of Leominster.
Marion was formerly employed by George S.
Carrington Company as a mail handler and collator for 26 years until its
closing in 1986. After that, Marion enjoyed babysitting her
grandchildren, as well as the children of close family friends until her
passing.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Episcopal
Church in Leominster, where she taught Sunday school for 49 years. She
was instrumental in the re-opening of St. Mark’s Thrift Shop in 1994,
after being closed for many years, and prepared many foods to be offered
to those in need at the thrift shop, where she donated her time on
Saturday mornings. She enjoyed gardening and canning, and was the
recipient of many awards from the Bolton, Sterling and Spencer fairs.
She earned a lifetime achievement award for various contributions to the
Bolton Fair.
Survivors include her husband; her two daughters,
Jennifer J. Booth and her husband, Ronald, of Leominster, Kristin L.
Dube and her husband, David, of Leominster; and her stepson, Todd W.
Buttermore and his wife, Jill, of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; seven
grandchildren, Nicholas Rice, Lauren and Megan Dube, Samantha and Parker
Booth, Skylar and Alika Buttermore; brother, Karl C. Hasenstein Sr. and
his wife, Jean, of Leominster; sister, Joan E. Bray and her husband,
Robert, of Leominster; many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral service to be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal
Church, 60 West St., Leominster, on Friday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m.
Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 60
West St., Leominster, MA 01453, or Ginny’s Thrift Shop, 52 Mechanic St.,
Leominster, MA 01453. The Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106
West St., Leominster, is assisting the family with arrangements.
