Joseph J. Perla 1931 - 2006 Joseph J. Perla , 75, of 5 Argentine St., died Wednesday, Dec. 27, in the River Terrace Healthcare Center, Lancaster.Mr. Perla was born in Leominster on March 1, 1931, the son of Ascenzio and Ida (Paladino) Perla and was a lifelong resident. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked at the Decatone Paper Mill in Westminster until it closed and then worked at James Monroe Wire & Cable Co. in South Lancaster until his retirement in 1997. Joe was a member of Holy Family of Nazareth Church in Leominster. He enjoyed gardening, vacationing in Hampton, N.H., at his summer home, and relaxing on the beach. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Caroline (Valeri) Perla; two sons, Joseph J. Perla II of Townsend and James Perla, of Leominster; three grandchildren and a brother, Richard Perla, of Leominster. He was predeceased by a brother Armand “Bob” Perla. Funeral services will be held on Friday from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union St., Leominster. Burial will be in St. Leo’s Cemetery, Leominster. A calling hour will be held on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. More info: www.RichardsonFuneralHome.net |

I taught high school English for 36 years, the last 15 at LHS, where I was also English Subject Specialist. I retired in 1993. My wife Carol (Bouchard) is a graduate of the same schools (See LHS 58) and taught Elementary grades in Leominster until retirement. We have lived on Merriam Ave. since 1963. We have three grown children, two of whom are teachers. |
